I know there are a ton out there, but I have no clue where to start. I guess
up to around $500. I want to be able to transfer VHS tapes and burn to DVD's
and I want the camcorder to be the tool to take them from my VHS to the PC.

I also want it to be the new device I use to take video's and burn to DVD's.
Something that has decent low light abilities too. I've been looking at the
Panasonic's PV GS250, PV GS150, PV GS35, and PV GS19 and Canon's ZR 200, ZR
300 and the ZR400.

Will these camers have all the needed ports and connections to perform these
transfers? Some have S-Video, what is the purpose of this, (sorry for not
knowing). What ports will some have that I need that won't be there, say on
these camera listed?

Can I get some opinions on these or any others.

thanks,
geo

The one thing you need to look for based on what you describe your going
to do with it, is that the camcorder have 'pass through' ability.
Meaning you can connect a vcr to have your vhs tapes pass through it to
your computer.

Its a rare camcorder these days that would not have a firewire port to
connect to the computer. It should also have the standard video in and
perhaps also an S Video port.

In the under 500 range, there are few low light standouts.

Has lots of camcorder reviews collected and is a good place to do your
research.
