OK, I think this one is a doozy. I have digital cable with HDTV from my
cable company, coming through a DVR. I just purchased a Radeon X800XL
with a VIVO port. The DVR has an S-Video output and I run that into the
video card. My understanding is that for normal channels, I should
capture at 352x480, 640x480, 704x480, and 720x480, depending on what I
want to do with the video.

Now one of the shows I want to capture is recorded on my DVR. Its an
HDTV 1080i channel, but the show is SD(Judge Judy). It looks like the
station just zooms into the SD to fill most of the screen, but the end
result looks better than the actual SD channel, which is why I use the
HD channel. Ok, so now I want to capture this HD channel through the
S-Video output (lower resolution, obviously). Should I still use one of
those same capture resolutions? Thanks.

I've seen many posts of those who are having real problems
capturing at Full D1 (720x480) with their systems. So it might
turn out to be problematic capturing to HD, with a normal setup.
I think your "depending on what I want to do with the video"
should continue to be your guide. Unless you have a device that
can play HD media, (not display it, play it); you are restricted by
what you can do with your capture anyway. [ I have a device that
can play WMV-HD and HD-DivX, the www.buffalotech.com
"Link Theater". ] Without such a device you will be playing it on
your PC or playing it, at most in Full D1 DVD on your TV (HD or
otherwise)

There are various HD capture options, but you don't have a
HD source, you mention only the analog S-Video off your DVR.

Luck;
Ken
