Record Month at AAPLS |

I just saw on Google that this month has been the busiest since AAPLS was
set up. 3797 posts as I write this.

Too bad 99% percent of the posts have been absolutely useless crap just
like this one. Apparently most of the posters could care less about
live sound topics and prefer bashing and flaming each other. The group
should be renamed to the AAWBF (alt.audio.whiny.bitch.fest).

My filters kill over 30% of the posts to this newsgroup. Some days it's
more like 50% killed. Sad that this is the only way to keep the s/n
ratio at a somewhat reasonable level. Too bad so many other people keep
poking at the trolls with a metaphorical stick. |

You need to be absolutely ruthless with your kill-file.
I have over 30 idiots blocked, and that makes the NG usable as a news
download. We only see about 5% of what's here.
Yes, I'll miss any useful messages they might post, but so what? They
are only posting to massage their own ego's. Why contribute to their
undeserved self-satisfaction?
If a thread starts to go pear-shaped, set it to "ignore".
If you really want to take an occasional look into the cesspit, in all
its obnoxious unpleasantness, just use Google.
By the way, if you are seeing this message, your killfile is not (yet)
good enough. We only use "noisepolice" for off-topic stuff.

Personally, i think a kill file is worthless. The best kill file
mechanism is the one between your ears. Simple to use.
You just choose who to click on. How hard can that be?
Your out doing a job in the real world, there is no kill file.
You just have to wade though it. That's Life. You can choose to
ignore discrimination in the world around you. That does not
make it go away.
Anyone wants to load up there kill files, be my guest.
Its your right. But why even come here if you got the
blinders on?
Anyone wants to kill file me, be my guest. I am not
here to earn brownie points. I don't agree with all
that happens here, and i will occasionally say so
when it happens. But a kill file is NOT my solution....

I get your point, but I think you're looking at it incorrectly. I think
many poeple use killfiles to remove the temptation to themselves to
respond. For that, it's a good tool. |

Anyone worthy of a killfile addition is going to be quoted in other posts
anyway. If your killfile is filtering 95% of the posts, then usenet is not
for you. Similarily, I'm not going to let the fear of being killfiled get
in the way of a heated debate or even a drunken rant. At times I may be an
asshole, but I'm not a fucking asshole. |
