Newbie Inquiry: Making Video Loops |
|
|
I'd like to make a DVD to illustrate a presentation that I give. I would
like it to contain a number of video loops which I could play to illustrate
various points--for example, a loop showing a hampster running endlessly in
a hamster wheel to indicate the futility of certain ways of doing things.
Ideally, the DVD would have multiple titles (or chapters), each of which,
when played, would play a different loop over and over (until the stop
button was pressed). My question: What is the easiest (i.e., easiest for
the novice to learn) Windows video editing program I could get with this
capability? Adobe Premier Pro or Elements or ??? Incidentally, finding
the video clips is not the problem, I just don't know how to make them loop.
Thanks for your help.

Your DVD authoring program is what does that. You select what you want
the clip to do when it is done, such as stop, play next title in list,
or loop. I suppose the next move would be to press menu when you are
tired of it, then select the next looping clip.
My authoring program is DVDit Version 6.

You put the footage down on the time line, then you put it down again,
and again, and again for as long as you want the loop to be. I think we
could come up with more complicated solutions, but this is the easiest. |

I use Adobe Encore to author DVDs. It is simple enough
to set the "end action" to just go back to the begining of
the track ("timeline"). It will play forever until you select
some other track or go back to the menu. |

As has been said for a DVD to be played in a settop player,
you would accomplish this during the authoring of the DVD.
My favorite DVD authoring program, TDA, does not have a
setting for that response after a track has played.
What I do in such situations is use motion menus, which repeat
endlessly until a selection is made. You can easily shrink all the
text fields, that you don't want to use, into invisibility. Or you
can use a period or small number at say.. the bottom of the screen
for each of the "menus" you want to play. That way you could
see which "menu" you are selecting to play, by which period or
number is highlighted. You might find it even easier if you made a
main menu that selects these track/title menus, then use the "Menu"
button on your remote when you want to stop a repeating menu
clip and be ready to select the next. You would make a two
second blank/black clip, to use as fake tracks, so that the
authoring program has a reason to make the menus.
Of course, an even easier way is to not make a DVD; and
play the clips off your PC or Laptop instead. Most software
players can play clips in repeat mode. You can get as fancy as
you want, without the constraints of the DVD standards. For
a couple hundred dollars you can get a refurbished laptop
that could present anything you can think of. (Much less than
the cost of "Adobe Premier Pro".)
Luck;
