New gig venue opened near where I am from in UK, been open about 10 days,
after a £4 million refurb from a Gala bingo hall. (before that it was a
dance hall/club type thing that my parents remember)
Was disappointed to see they've gone and put MH3 desks in, brand new venue,
loads of money spent, and analog desks - was hoping they'd have put a nice
digi in.
Wouldn't mind a job there, but would mean stepping back down to an alalog
desk, which would suck.

Is the Victoria Inn still a live venue? Loved their "I Hate Your Band"

T-shirts although some bastard stole mine.

Remember doing a fetish gig at Destiny and Elite as well. Quite the party
that was.

Is that a 'Carling' academy? If so I guess they must have some sort of deal
going with soundcraft, IIRC, both Liverpool & Glasgow have MH3's as well...

....A quick google shows the same for Birmingham, Islington (was the
Marquee), Bristol, and so on & so on...

MH3's are adequate, the beer on the rider is not... ;)

They were great shirts. They had "I hate your band" on the back so all the
band saw was the backs of the security guys in front of them with that logo
staring them in the face. If they still sell them then pick me up two in
extra fat bastard size and I'll drive up and buy you a beer as well as pay
you for them. Almost bought a house and moved up that way myself
(Willington) a couple of years ago.

Destiny and Elite went through a few issues what must have been getting on
12 months ago now. Was closed for a time, not sure whats going off with it
now. (odd considering i live 5 minutes walk away). I know its not student
orientated like it used to be.

This was the gig where we turned several turbosound wedges into smoke
machines. Bloody yamaha desks. Not the best venue in the world.

They keep trying to get more live acts on in various pubs and bars in the
city but it never seems to take of. I've recently done a couple of battle
of
the bands type gigs at "the old Bell" which is aparantly a very popular
pub
although i'd never heard of it before i got the job in. They were using
their in house system before they got me in. 802's scattered about the
room. :)

I had a friend by the name of Pete who used to promote a few venues down
there. He did a degree in music there and sort of stayed on afterwards. No
idea what he's doing now.

Still a shame for brand new venue to have not gone digi.

Both of those are established venues and far from brand new. As and when
they come to upgrade they'll probably go digital but a lot of engineers
still haven't made the switch so it's easier to have analogue desks then
hire in the digis when needed.

Yes in the smaller room at birmingham you have MH3's an the turbo rig. mate
of mine reckons its about ready for sorting out in there. said it was like a
bandpass filter on FOH, not what i'd expect from the gear being used. I've
known many a monitoring issue in that room though. Seems like a case of
leave it til you dont get any sound which is not what u'd expect from that
type of venue.

I've had a better sound from the bar with the TR gear.

Yeah, newest Carling Academy.
Yeah, looking at the website you can can get lists of gear at all the
venues.

Last couple of gigs I've been to there had a PM5D at FOH, although they
each looked like they probably travelled with the artist.

That was hired in gear, was it not?

Hell, figuring out, WHY the bloody wegdes turned into smoke machines. If I
remember correctly, why later deduced that one of the outs on the Yammie
board went into oscillation and the amp subsequently into DC. Or something
like that. Hell of a soundcheck, that.

Hell of a show as well, especially the chick with the burning candle up her,
erm, behind... That was there, wasn't it?
