Is there a comparable accelerator to Mojo
that could be used to give real-time editing
/rendering to Sony Vegas? Avid Mojo seems to
be quite pricey, but I'm told that for the money
it's the best device available. Also, will the
Mojo work with other non Avid NLE's?

Vegas isn't designed to take advantage of devices like this. The only way
to reduce render times is to get a faster CPU. For example, here are
results from a comparison test by a user who just upgraded his system (total
cost was around $2,000.00):
Dual Xeon 2.6 - 1 hour 25 min.
Pentium 4, 3.0 GHz - 1 hour 15 min.
Athlon 64 4000+ (single core) - 0 hours 32 min.
Athlon 64 4800+ dual core - 0 hours 16 min.

Mikel,

Actually there is a product that will give you real-time rendering in
sony vegas. It is the Blackmagic Design Decklink card. They come in SD
and HD versions, And all capture in various formats, including
Uncompressed like the Mojo offers, they range in prices from 289 to
about 1489. The most popular is the Decklink Extreme which sells for
889 and it has various SD inputs and outputs including SDI and
Component Output for betacam w/ Deck Control. That card is PCI-X, so
you'd need a motherboard that supports it. For more info check out my
site, I have extensive research available on decklink cards, as they
are one of my favorites.

The Mojo will not work with other NLE's, as it's specifically for Avid.
Of course Vegas's rendering speed is affected by the CPU performance,
but the Decklink cards give you not only the Real-Time Performance you
need, but also Uncompressed Video capture option which Vegas alone
doesn't offer.

Hope this helps.

take care,
henry
