TV Recording Software - Recommendations? |
|
|
Getting into using my pc as pvr, to stream resultant files to wireless
attached media player, but having a few problems.
What I'd ideally like to do is record output from my tv card into divx or
xvid format.
I've been playing with FLY2000 TV which records in mpeg or avi formats,
using whatever encoders are installed, but my results are mixed - lots of
dropped frames, stuttering playback etc.
Anyone make any recommendations as to TV recording software/encoder
combinations they might be using?
Much appreciated,
Paul.

| Showshifter. There's no better and easier application. |

I have been using Chris TV, which is a simple recording and
timeshifting program that focuses more on quality than eye candy. I
personally don't sit in front of my PC to watch TV, so timeshifting was
not a requirement although the software offers it. I did want Divx
encoding ability (or any other MPEG4 codec) that can be used to create
a small AVI file. I use a Philips 642 DVD player so I just copy the
files directly to a CD or DVD and watch on my regular TV...no authoring
or converting. The schedule program is not in the same league as Titan
TV nor can it be fed by Titan TV, but it's just plain simple and easy
to use (like Excel). I haven't missed a show due to user error. My
only complaint is that Chris TV has about a 45 second delay between
lauching and actually recording. Automated recording doesn't take this
into account so you need to "pad" your start times by a minute. If I
edit out the commercials I use VirtualDubMod so that I don't have to
re-encode.
Most of the other PVRs, (SageTV, BeyondTV, Showshifter, Pinnacle, MCE,
etc) are all about large fonts and navigating with a remote from a
lounge chair. These have there purpose, especially if you are using
your PC with a 32" LCD TV in a true media center PC, but if you're just
wanting compressed digital recordings with a scheduler, this is your
program. |
