Turning Over Inventory |
|
|
Do you think it is important to sell older gear to buy new in an
installed situation? I have some aging PLX1202 amps that work just
fine, but I don't want to wait for them to fail before being forced
into new ones. What is standard practice amongst the technically savvy?

I sell my live rig gear every chance I get
some goes cheap some doesn't
it is one way I avoid ending up with old beat up unsaleable kit
with the life of installed gear measured in decades I doubt I would bother
to sell it off

Thanks for the quick response. That's what I figured, and they're good
pieces of gear, so I'm not really worried about them failing any time
soon. |

I would buy one new amp of equivilent model/power etc, so when the next one
goes down you can swap it out.
If he broken one comes back unrepairable, then buy another - basically
always have a spare in stock. |

your biggest problem will be dust
open them once a year or so and using compressed air. or a vacuum clean
them out'
the dust will cause them to over heat
watch for clogged or non working fans as well

And if you do decide to sell them off, let me know what you'd like to get
out of one or two of them and there's a chance I might be interested. Need
a power amp for a bass guitar rig and another monitor amp just in case.

Ideally have them in an amp room, not just a rack back stage. keep the room
clean, to minimise dust. On ship the electrician dept clean our amps out
once a month, amps are generally in amp rooms (apart from the older ships)
and have cool air blown into the room to keep them happy. |

When we have a fan failure, we note it. When we see the second failure
in a particular make/model of gear, we purchase replacements for all
fans in every piece of that vintage/make/model we own and start a staged
replacement (and cleaning) program. |
