Re: DirectTV HDTV over two lines |

and yes, directv is coming out with a new dish (here in dallas it will be
released Nov. 6 2005), and while the dish is backward compatible (meaning
the current HDTivo HR10-250 will work with the new 5 lnb dish), it will
never be capable of receiving 100% of the programming that will be available
through all 5 lnb's (it will continue to receive info from the first 3 lnb
that are on the current triple-lnb "hd" dish). directv will be releasing
it's own HD dvr (NOT TIVO) that will be used to receive the other 2 lnb's.
eventually all the new equipment will work with the 5 lnb dish, but "old"
equipment won't, as the update to to receivers is in the hardware, not the
software.
so if i were you, i'd go ahead and get the hr10-250 (depending on your
budget). what i mean is, if you don't mind buying additional hardware
within the nextyear or two, go ahead and enjoy the tivo until all the new
channels and dishes and equipment are up and running. but if you're not in
any rush to see high-def and have dvr features, or want to make 1 purchase
and not worry about it for a few years, you may want to hold out for a few
more months.

that the current HD Tivo wont work with MPEG4. Does this now mean I may
need to get a different dish than the oval one and may have to run more
than four lines down from it?
DirecTV is making it hard for the home user to stay with them. With
Digital cable only needing one cable into the house and offering DVR
capabilities with HD DVR coming soon!
