hi gurus:)
i have an AVI file. It is supposed to be a movie. I want to play it
with a Vplayer(or other). The is about 700 MB. When I play it there is
no movie I wanted but a 5 minutes trash instead(black-white dotted
screen).

I look at the settings of this AVI and I see:
video data rate: 1929 kbit/s
audio bit rate: 1411 kbit/s
and the codec says: Cinepak Codec

All other AVIs I habe are:
video: about 100 kbit/s
audio: about 100 kbit/s

My question is what I need to do to watch this movie. Do I need a
special codec?
As far as I know Cinepak Codec is a standard codec for Windows.
The way I see it the file is compressed but I do not know how to
decompress it.

please help

regards
simon:)

The Cinepak codec is an old avi codec that has poor compression and
quality when compared to today's codecs. It sounds like you have a
garbage file. It must have its header set to show as Cinepak since if
it was for a codec you don't have you would have received a message.
Your standard Windows operating system will have the Cinepak codec for
its movie player so I don't think that's the problem. I think you just
have garbage. Sorry about that.

thanks for all answers,
here some additional info.
I think the movie has been screened in the movies lately, because the
title is flight plan. Is it possible that I have to manipulate it to be
able to watch it?

Another off topic question maybe:
Is there a way(a program) to find out about the settings of the movie.
But not the standard way of windows settings.

best regards and thanks again
