Don't get me started on liteon. bags of shite and god awfull customer
service. Mign still pay back correctly after three replacements and now
11months of chasing them i've given up.
Do a search on this news group for Liteon 5006 to say my previous comments
and experience.

Ilo is a store brand of WalMart. The model prior to the current one,
the DVDR04, was a Lite-On. It was purported to be defective, so Ilo
changed to the CyberHome 1600 for the current DVDR05 model.
What that tells me is that LiteOn does not need to be in the DVDR
business.
£200 is around $360 which is enough to get a Pioneer, rated as the
best if not one of the best DVDR HDD units. I spotted an 80GB and a
160GB.
Unless you record everything in sight, 80GB should be sufficient with
medium resolution (4 hours on a DVD => ~4GB storage) - that will give
you about 80 hours strorage if my estimates are correct.
For my money I am tired of being an early adopter so I am going to
pass on DVDR HDDs this year and see what happens next year around this
time (Christmas season). I want to see two TV tuners in the unit so I
can record two shows at the same time.

I too have had good service from Panasonic over the years. But I have
read that recently the quality of their DVDRs is not what you would
expect from Panasonic.
If I had to replace my Ilo unit (and I might - I have 90 days to
evaluate it), then I would go for the low cost Panasonic DVDR.
If you want a DVDR HDD then you really should consider the Pioneer
even though the price is high.

I tested a Pioneer alongside a Toshiba and opted for the Toshiba. The
Pioneer has many more features, but implements them not a well as the
Toshiba. I can't stand the constant noise of downloading the TV Guide
at all times of the day and night and the jerky response to scans and
special effects. The Toshiba is quieter but has the fan on all the
time. It implements the edits and special effects much better.
Overall if time is not issue, wait another year for the bugs to be
ironed out as HDD DVD-Rs are still evolving.
