| Quote: | QSC plx series are a PITA when it comes to IEC connectors. i've
had to fasten them all in now as they would work loose just from a
bit of traveling (admitedly on its back where the wheels are).
|
I tuck the AC cables in between the amps and the side of the rack (helps
with neatness and airflow). To prevent the connector from falling out just
bend the AC cable around and zip tie it to the rear rack mount tab on the
amp.
| Quote: | I certainly agree with making panels up. theres no reason not to for
outputs especially. You need someone that knows how they are
wired up though in case they go wrong.
|
That's the bueaty of panels though... The wiring should't go wrong.
You're moving all the stress and wear of the connection to the panel mounted
connectors. That is unless someone is in there playing around or you're
shoving a bunch of cabling into the back of the rack, stressing the internal
connections.
Idealy the back of the rack should be paneled (connection, fan and/or
vent panels) so that you can't get to anything.
| Quote: | Its all about making life so much easier isn't it. I use an 8 way XLR
multi to go to the monitor amp rack, this stays wired into the rack.
|
Exactly... Easier, faster and fewer connections... This is why we use
multipins and larger multi circuit AC plugs.
| Quote: | and comes out the front panel. The outputs are on the front panel aswell.
|
I don't like cabling on the front panels personally.
First, I don't like cabling hanging down on the front of the racks.
This is more of an issue if you're stacking racks at shows to save on space
or to get racks up to a decent working height (like putting a monitor
processing rack up on an amp rack).
Second, you need either a bigger rack or multiple racks to get the same
amount of gear in. By putting all the connections on the back of the rack
you can fully load up the front. Also, since truck space and case prices
are valuable it pays to keep your setup in smaller cases.
Third it's REAL easy to step on cables (and stress the connection) when
they're on the front of a rack...
| Quote: | Same with FOH. Means once ive plugged teh supply in at the back
(32 single phase FOH and 16 single phase Mons) i can put them in
a corner out the way and work from the front panel.
|
Might as well put the rest of the connections on the back with the AC...
By putting some on the front and some on the rear you're actually increasing
the amount of space you need because of the cabling sticking out both sides.
| Quote: | Just have FOH itself to sort out now, bit of a mess at the moment.
|
LOL. That was the first thing we setup at the shop I was working at...
For the "A" system with a XL200 FOH console it was: 1-18sp comp/gate rack
with 2-24ch multipins (24 channels of balanced send/return), 1-18sp
drive/playback rack with 2-24ch multipin (1 to the console and 1 for the
24ch return snake) and 1-14sp FX rack with a 24ch multipin (8 FX with mono
send and stereo return). All the multipins are 30 ft long, to allow for
various rack placements, and live in the console dog house.

<http://www.qualtekusa.com/catalog/na_power/retainer.html> about $2 in

Nice... Looks like a good place to get custom length IEC cables too. =)

Nice. Thanks Kurt. The ones I've seen before were more convoluted
with a plastic box that went around the IEC connector end. |

If I really need an exact length I usually just replace one end of a
premade cable. Most of the time I can get pretty close (at great
prices) from <http://www.cablewholesale.com/catalog/powercords.htm> |

That's perfect. A crew guy from a local party band was looking for a
25ft IEC cable to use with the guitar players rig... Pedal board has an IEC
power input and the 25ft cord would be a lot nicer than a 6ft and extension
cord.

The 25-footers are new, hadn't noticed them before. Could prove handy
for SOS setups. |

I have some 25' IEC's for my powered speakers. they're very very
handy.
what good is a speaker that comes with a cord that doesn't even reach
the ground?

I've bought some power tools you could make the same comment about. Totally

I've played that joint many times years ago. They should have kept it a
shaker bar as its a very bad room for bands.

I'm not familiar with the term "shaker bar." Please explain.
