Microphone Shockmount? |
|
|
Sorry for the newbie question.
For recording vocals, is it important to place the condenser microphone on a
shockmount? Or, would a normal microphone stand (w/o shockmount) do just as
well in most situations?

Depends on the flooring of the room and other circumstances. If
you're on carpet and a solid floor, and there isn't ambient noise or
hvac motors, or anythng shaking the joint that could conductr up
through the mic stand, you'll be fine w/o one. Rubber feet on a plain
stand often work nicely.
Otherwise, a shock mount adds value in keeping hte vocal track squeaky
clean.
Best Regards,

I highly agree, setting the stand on a carpet square or using a foa |
filter around the mic helps also. Shock mounts are nice but no
essential in home recording, I like recording without one better, eve
though I have an expensive recording mic with one, I am very, ver
happy with the ATM 27 HE that I have over my sennheiser and shure 57'
I had used mostly in the past

Depends on the microphone.
There are microphones that have built-in shock mounting of
the capsule, and those that don't.
There are microphones that have extended bass and tend to
pick up shock and vibration, and those that don't. |
