Great, the "blue stage of death"
Try to explain to your tour manager your console had a virus
and will be temporarily out of action.....
Then, it will be duumb.
Imagine, arguing with Arny live at a show through your console.
The possibilities.

Yeah there is endless Windows bashing potential, lets not go there its
boring
(Imagine waking up in hospital on a life support system running Windows
etc.)
I can reboot the PC that controls my crossovers without affecting
anything though, its up to the designers of these consoles how they
integrate the system blocks.
Dave Natale will never use one. |

Spectacle cleaning kit (fluid and a microfibre cloth) from your nearest

Just been flicking through my latest issue of pro sound news.
EAW have got a new digital desk. Anyone had a chance to look at this
yet?
Looks like Mackie decided not to market it under their own name because
of
the bad rep their mixers have. Looks interesting with Smaartlive being
built
in.
Yup. Read that too.
I expect it was indeed actually entirely Mackie designed but they
realised that
putting the Mackie name on it would cause it be seen as a downmarket
product.
The thing about Smaartlive caught my eye too. Is this a trend to
'automate'
sound and mixing by attempting to partly take the sound mixer out of the
equation. Slippery slope imho.
Graham
No, I think its just more convenient for display and control than an
external laptop.
I think we will see consoles of this type enabling cobranet control of
speaker controllers.
Or having the speaker controllers built into the actual desk like this
new EAW/Makie one does
Once you digitise the mix it doesn't matter where the speaker controllers
are, but if you have to feed analogue audio back to the stage on 8 lines
plus more for infill etc you start to lose the advantage.
I'd be happier being able to bring up a control page of my speaker
controllers of choice at the speaker end rather than having to run
analogue subs lows mids highs x 2 x number of zones from the console.
Using IP networking all the way fron console to amplifier is the ultimate
goal.
|
I guess there is a bit of wait and see with this console. It states that
the mic pres are remote conrollable, which to me says that they are extrenal
from the desk, so with same thinking it could be true that the output DA's
are too, and then it all depends on how they've decided that the desk and
ADs / DAs hook-up |

Then, before you know it, the thing will be able to perform
the all-important FOH skill of reading charts.

will need some kind of GPS system on board and motorised castors on the
flight case so it can find FOH |

sure there is a way GPS navigation systems can implement a route to
FOH, tomtom navigation is around the corner here, i'll drop em a
line see if i can get them to make an easter egg in next version :-)
Follow the black/blue/gray hose, if you find a pile of electronic
equipment you never have seen before , no one is going to let you
touch it and it is NOT on the stage you have reached FOH.
Please do not make the usual dumd arsed remarks as the FOH engineer
you are seeing now is very alive (not in a newsgroup) tired, grumpy
and probably a very strong man too.

Had a teenage kid ask me that at a festival. I politely replied yes.
He looked at me dumbfounded then asked what would happen if he pressed a
button. His dad who was with him said he (the dad) would hit him (the kid)
with a bat.....

LOL, reminds me of a time when I was asked that question.... Told the
person we didn't mess with little things like watts. When he asked me what
we used I told him MEGA watts. =)
