Ford CD Player Problem |
|
|
Have a problem with my Ranger, maybe someone can help me diagnose it.
It's a 02 Ranger, with the factory CD player and speakers. The radio
sounds ok, but the right front speaker sometimes sounds a little
staticy. When I try to play a CD however, only the left front speaker
works, the left front makes a low buzz, and the rear speakers make no
sound at all.
Does it sound like my CD/Radio is bad ( blown channel?), or do I have
a busted or shorted speaker?
Any and all help is appreciated!

Sounds like a problem in the CD part of the unit. the radio and CD share the
same amplifier, so bad channel or speaker not the problem |

IMO, and based on the conditions you described, it appears that the
factory radio is bad. If you want to be bored, read below for my
prior experiences with Ford factory radios. Every one of them was
replaced with aftermarket! FWIW, Ford factory radios have always
sucked for myself and members of my family who have Ford vehicles.
<begin rant about Ford crap factory radios>
I once had a 2000 Ford F-150 extended cab that I purchased in December
1999. By January 2000 I had already replaced the factory CD player
due to the fact that it wouldn't read recorded CDs very well. Also,
that pesky volume feature that was supposed to lower the radio at idle
and increase the volume at highway speeds worked in the reverse. At
idle, the radio would blast and when at highway speed, the sound would
lower.
Prior to that, I had a 1996 Thunderbird with factory CD and replaced
that at the 6 month mark due to the fact that it would no longer play
CDs. Oh, I forgot to mention that the "ford" CD player had been
replaced twice in the first six months of ownership. The Sony CD
player that I replaced the factory CD player with lasted many years!
IMHO, Ford factory radios are crap if you intend to use them.
Currently, I am looking to purchase a Mustang GT, and I am considering
ordering one without a freaking factory radio so that I can install my
own (assuming they will let me do that this day and age).
<end rant> |

I recently purchased this truck, and it had been "certified" by Ford,
meaning that they had checked over all of these things before I bought
it. Naturally, the dealer keeps putting me off, saying that they will
fix it. They mentioned trying a lenses cleaning disk. I somehow doubt
that this is the problem since the problem now seems to be
intermittent. The other morning I threw a cd in, and the thing was
working fine, but now it's back to not working as usual. Probably a
cracked solder joint on one of those circuit boards.
Looks like they will be replacing this one and eating the costs. |

In dealing with Ford in the past, I can tell you that you should not
give up. Prepare to go over the dealer and report them to Ford if
they keep blowing you off. As long as your dealer is not
"independent" you should not encounter any problems in reporting them
to Ford!
BTW, isn't it nice how car dealerships are anxious to sell you a
vehicle, yet they are less than thrilled to service warranty items? |
