my bro is going to put some subs in his 300zx, someone is offering him 6
volfehag 12s for $400 and i told him he'd be crazy, its too many subs for
that small of a car and if he spent the $400 on something else he'd be
happier. So i need you all to recommend some nice subs for that price, he
does want to run more than one obviously and its going to be a lot of show.

so far i've told him to consider

of course i'm the ascendant nut so i suggest those, but he doesn't like the
way they look, he doesn't like "plain", i do.

thought about stereo integrity but they're probably too expensive for him, i
really just want him to get them so i can hear them, i hear great things
about these subs

aside from those two i dont' really know. I don't like adire so i won't be
pushing them but anyone else you all can turn me to is appreciated. btw
he'll probably go with 12s but nothing is set in stone at this point.

Not sure if these are flashy enough, but a pair of AE Speaker
(formerly Stryke Audio) AV12's would do nicely off of 1000-1500 watts
http://tinyurl.com/bljug

If flashy is the goal, there's always Kicker 12L7's... as much as
hate to suggest them. You may be able to find refurbs for cheap (o
maybe ebay).

Maybe Phoenix Gold Xenon's... http://www.cardomain.com/item/PHOX12D

well you can get alot of really good subs for 400$, but if your looking
to get both the subs and the amps and the wireing kit you may end up
spending more than 400

Sorry just to clear up, its about $400 for just the actual subs, he has
some room to work with on the price because he has other money set aside for
the wiring/amps/enclosure etc

those stryke might be perfect, he's wanting something silver, they seem to
be very good subs for the money too, any experience with them?

i recommended the L7s to him too and he kind of cringed (surprised me after
his previous choice)

No experience with them... yet. For $150 apiece, they seem like on
hell of a bargain. They are well respected on some of the other DI
home & car audio forums. If I had a need for a new sub right now,
would definitely be trying one out

a single won't do at all, but i agree it'd be enough.

just to let everyone know, some guy is offering my bro a solo x for
something near his budget, he's probably not going to go for it, its too
much sub for what he's wanting (more look than sound). so apparently he'd
be happier with 34 funky pups :-D any more suggestions of blue or silver
subs would be appreciated

Chris,

Tell your brother he is an idiot and get him to buy a decent sub from any
number of brands, ID, Pioneer, Rockford, Adire, etc. and be happy with the
sound and quit worrying about the looks. I know it's tough love, but you're
his brother, don't let him get speakers because of the way they look.

If he really wants to gt subs based on looks then have him go down to the
superjumbopawn with a $20 bill and buy the "coolest" looking thing he can,
when you're buying based on looks alone it's all going to be the same.

Vanity and function rarely mix. If he wants vanity, get him the
prettiest subs money can buy.

If looks is what your bro is after, have him get some decent subs with
some freaky grills http://audio.autoblog.com/entry/1234000630022822/
