Any review on Insignia Plasma TV? |
|
|
Hi,
I saw this Insignia 42" Plasma EDTV at a very good price, but I am
considering buying it because I hadn't heard of the brand before.
Could anyone share their experience with TVs from this manufacturer?
Does anyone with an Insignia Plasma could share some comments?
Thanks.

Agreed. I was just saying that the "you get what you pay for" statement is
not necessarily true anymore, these days.

I have not seen or read about an Insignia plasma, but it is likely a
rebadged Taiwan or Korean model. When it comes to plasma or LCD TVs, I
would recommend you go with the better brand names. There is a much bigger
gap in quality between the better brands and no names for plasmas than
there is for a extremely mature product like CRT TVs.

Slightly off original post (and reply),but does anyone have any thoughts about Samsung LCD TVs vs. Sharp Aquos LCD TVs. (32" size).

Maybe you don't always get what you pay for, but you almost
never get what you don't pay for. ;)
IOW, it's easier to find an expensive but mediocre performing
product than it is to find an excellent performing but
inexpensive product.

Insignia is Best Buy's new house brand. As stated in
http://news.com.com/Best+Buy+initiates+a+battle+of+the+brands/2100-1041_3-5392962.html
"Best Buy is taking a page out of PC makers' playbooks to produce the Insignia
products. It's using contract manufacturers, whose skill makes it relatively
easy for a company like Best Buy to procure and then sell products such as
televisions under its own brand name. Gateway, Dell and Hewlett-Packard have all
taken the same path, making it possible that the companies may even use the same
manufacturers for their products."

While it may be true, that really doesn't mean much. many will advertise
the cheap units to get you in and then have them setup with bad antenna,
controls set wrong, etc. just to con you into a more expensive model that
has a larger markup. And this way, they didn't have to say a word. It was
your choice.:-)

Re: Any review on Insignia Plasma TV? |

Actually that happened to me while looking around at Future Shop. I
read a lot of good reviews of their low-level TVs (can't remember the
name of the brand) and the one on display looked awful. Wrong colours,
distorted images, etc. I am sure they set it incorrectly so you buy the
expensive ones.
Finally I bought the Insignia Plasma TV, good deal, and it looks great.
Incredible colours, contrast... I hope it stays like that for a long
time! It was placed next to Samsung and Sony displays in Best Buy, and
although you could see a difference it was not one that could justify
spending $1,200 more dollars.
Of course, if I could afford it I would have bought a Samsung or
Panasonic, but the Insignia has been a very good choice for my budget. |
