Aspect Ratio |

I used my new Sony DCR-HC42 camcorder to record parts of my daughter's
wedding. The recording is in 16:9 format. Now I want to capture the video
with either Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 or ULead Video Studio 7 SE DVD
programs in my computer. When I do the capture, the video is squeezed
horizontally. I want it to be letterboxed. I have the camcorder "TV Type"
set to 4:3 for playback. How can I do this? Thanks,
Sam K.

the sentence "o tempora, o mores" is latin and means "oh, signs of our
times", but literally means "oh times, oh morales" and with that sentence I
wanted to express that the OP problem is a "sign of our times".

Re: Aspect Ratio |

It looks like you recorded in 16:9 anamorphic, which is actually 4:3 -
720x576 pixels. The 16:9 original picture is squeeezed into 4:3 which
is what you are seeing. When you play it back on a 16:9 tv, it expands
the video back to the correct shape.
In order to re-shape your picture to letterbox you need an editing
system eg Premiere or Vegas or Final Cut which will allow you to
reshape the picture inside the 4:3 frame. Some maths will give you the
sizes.
