I send out DVD-Rs for demos for my company. Up until now, the
occasional call saying that the DVD didn't work wasn't a big deal.
They would sometimes send them back for me and they worked on my
player. I assume it was just compatibility. Now I'm sending out more
important material and don't want to risk them not working.

I had been buying cheap DVD-R media for about .30/ea. They were all
silver top (no lable at all, so I can screen or thermal label them)

Are all DVD-R the same? What / where should I buy DVD-R to decrease
the chances that they aren't compatible with certain players?

It would REALLY help to know your make/model DVD Writer.

DVD-R media are NOT all the same.Check your DVD-Writer's manual. It
usually lists smomewhere the supported media.
DVD media is in the period of you-get-what-you-pay-for.In general you
can't go wrong with Taiyo Yuden (ty) DVD media. However, because TY is a
well known name, there are counterfeits.Depending on where you live try:

http://www.cddimensions.com/cd-r_media/dvd-media.asp (east coast)

Or

http://www.supermediastore.com/dvdmedia.html (west coast)

Do not be swayed by adverts re low cost media. For "important" DVD work go
with TY.Remember....you get what you pay for.
