At the end of my rope with DVD need help |
|
|
I've been at it for over a year now. I have a Sony HC85 DVR and a Sony Vaio
laptop with a pentium 3.06 proc. with 512 ram. Windows xp and sp2 . I've
bought and used the latest 2 versions of nero, roxio and pinnacle. Also the
sony software. I've used the built in burner and bought an ext. DRX 710
burner. I keep buying the latest dvd players to keep up with the godam
+-RRWetc etc etc. I have 4 now.
I've spent a lot of money and havent made a descent dvd yet. Each time I
work witha new program, I completely uninstall any other authoring/burning
program so there's no interference.
Nothing works smoothly, everythings choppy and loads the computer down. I
cannot afford another laptop and my desktop with a 2.6 pentium with an agp
9600 video card has about the same results.
Last night I successfully captured 3 tapes using sony DVgate plus.
(hallelullyah) Trying to edit with nero6 the moniter display stops for a
second then goes and for every 10 seconds of video will pop up 2 to 4
frames. Impossible to edit.
I've tried to be thorough yet not bore any help away. What the hell is my
problem???????????

After you capture your presumably mpeg file why not use an editor like
Womble that doesn't re-encode very quick and low memory overheads, easy to
use. Then when you have finished editing use NeroVisionExpress to author
your DVD, Nero is a bit dodgy if you try to use it as an editor, well that's
my experience of it. I've used Womble, VideoRedo and Cutterman for basic
editing - on balance I prefer Womble. If and only if you want to go a bit
more complex then Sony Vegas 5 or 6 or Final Cut Pro is the way to go but
for normal run of the mill stuff keep it simple. I would suggest you need
more memory say 1 gig and it should be fast high quality memory chips - it
does make a difference with video or sound editing. DDR400 Corsair or
Kingmax etc is the minimum I would consider. My system is Pentium 2.8 with 1
gig memory Corsair DDR400 XP SP2 with ALL updates and patches. A LG burner
and a Samsung burner, HD are all 7200 rpm 8m cache - since updating the
memory not a coaster in sight!

There are a number of MJPEG based editors out there, I
doubt that Nero 6 Video Express is one of them. Your
Sony DVgate plus is described as doing some editing.
Have you tried Sony's Screenblast editor?
Luck;

I'm sorry but whats a coaster? Is it possible to get a hold of that type of
memory for a laptop?
I would do the editing on my desktop, but I like to edit at work. I'd rather
get paid for the enormous amount of time I'm wasting. |

I really appreciate the replies. I will start with more memory. I checked
properties on "my computer" and noticed only 400 mb of RAM. No, Ken, I
haven't tried screenblast, dbut I will give it a shot.
I'm getting too darn many mindv tapes piling up. Little farts are expensive
and I thought this little hobby of mine would be so cool! Expensive
frustration. Who needs it! My moms little wind up Brownie 8mm from the 50's
had her reels converted to VCR. No sound, but at least shes got something
to watch |

Sorry Michael a bit of Australian slang a coaster = the thingy you put on a
table before you put down a very hot cup of tea so as not to burn the table
top!!! Generally round not unlike a cd.
The memory brand I would recommend is Corsair or Kingmax
