Re: Phoning B&H Photo Video |

I have lived in SE Asia for the past 16 years. I have been doing
business with B&H Photo for many of those years, and with great
satisfaction.
Yes, I did have to send them a photocopy of my credit card, but I sent
it by FAX.
Yes, I do have to take into consideration that there is not only a time
difference but a DAY difference between us as well. And quite
surprisingly, most of the Thai people don't celebrate Rosh Hashanah or
Yum Kippur, so I do have to be aware of the Jewish holidays as well.
(They do have a sort of Chanukah, or 'Festival of Lights' which is going
on right now as it happens, but has nothing to do with Judda Macabe or
temple oils lasting eight days.)
However, all things considered, I have been served quickly, courteously,
accurately, and well by all the people I have talked with over the years
at B&H, some more friendly than others, but all professional and easy to
deal with. Certainly more so than the folks at the Thai Customs Office!
Remember, when you are dealing from one country to another, you have to
be flexible. Otherwise you will go nuts! :o)

They take a Visa card with a UK billing address because they have taken mine.
Yes they do on the first order ask for a copy of the credit card,
understandable with so much fraud going on.
They were happy that I sent the back and front of mine in two separate emails
and just as happy if I wanted to fax it the same way.
You can of course eliminate all risk from life , and pay UK prices :-)
Great people to deal with.
Don't forge to allow for VAT and if applicable customs duty at this end, plus
the couriers fee for handling the custom clearance.

Yes, but NEVER e-mail credit card information. We and B&H should all know that
by now.

Now I in a calmer mood, I apologise for that post, but I have had nothing
but problems with numerous on-line retailers recently.
It was unfortunate for B&H that they were at the end of the line, and the
end of my patience. Like I said, I want to buy from them, and there is a
reason for this, and not just price. Amongst other things, they seem a very
good company, and I hear very few bad things about them.

2) They want me to email them a copy of my bank card to them (if they
actually accepted it). But, Email is not a secure way to send sensitive
details such as bank details. And I am surprised they can not think of a
more secure way of verifying bank details. Sorry, but emailing bank
details
is not acceptable.
3) I emailed Customer Service regarding the above two issues, asking what
other alternatives there were to pay them, but never had a response.
4) I tried to phone them, but I got an automated message. This was at
11PM
GMT (6PM their time). The message said they close at 5.30, even though on
their website it said 7PM.
5) I tried to phone them again tonight at 7PM GMT (2PM their time), and
got
another automated message. I had to look on the internet to see that it
is
'Thanksgiven'. Petty, you may think, but if you look at their holiday
closure dates, they only list until October. Ordering internationally,
people don't know that. And, if I had a reply in a decent amount of time,
this wouldn't have been an issue.
What I am trying to say, is that this has not been an easy way to depart
with my money. I am not saying they are a bad company, just that I want
to
buy from them, but these small issues are making be sway to stay with my
trusty 35mm SLR because I can't be bothered with messing around.
Please. Do not be deterred from buying from this company, because I think
they are very good most of the time, and I have been unlucky. However,
B&H
employees, take note, because at the moment you have lost a very easy
sale..

We accept Visa, MasterCard, AmEx, Discover, and wire-transfer payments. Because
the banks in some countries are less willing to cooperate with generally
accepted verification procedures (designed to reduce credit card fraud and
identity theft), we're obliged to limit the maximum charge per transaction for
Visa & MasterCard payments. AmEx and Discover are managed differently and
there's no value-per-transaction limit.

A fax is equally acceptable. I feel obliged to point out that to date not a
single person who's cooperated with this prudent and effective anti-fraud
procedure has had any difficulty.

After problems with other on-line retailers, the smallest thing triggered me
off. As mentioned, B&H were unfortunate to be at the end of this line.

Just a couple of things Henry.
The holiday closure isn't up-to-date. Look at the 'Contact Us' details:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=cart.jsp&A=getpage&Q=ContactUs.jsp
Holiday details links here from this page links here:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home;jsessionid=BqcIFaetWL!-1537616745?O=getpage.jsp&A=getpage&Q=HolidayPopUp.jsp
Also, the wire-transfer details from Customer Services in incorrect:
It is not Fleet Bank anymore, it is Commerce Bank.
If Customer Service closes earlier than Sales, it maybe worth putting C/S
times as well.

Well, if you're ever had to deal with B&H customer service, they can seem
rude and arrogant too. I don't think it's intentional, it's just the "New
