adding a tweeter to a 2X12 bass cab? |
|
|
I have an older 2x12 bass cab, was wanting to add a tweeter.
Do I need a crossover, or just wire it to the input jack.
Thanks very Much,
SS

The only tweeter than can be wired in without a full blown crossover
is a piezo type ( not that they're much good anyway ).
You will need a crossover otherwise.
Is this an instrument cab btw ? Don't expect to transform the sound by
adding a tweeter as an afterthough.

Unless you feel the need for a toppier sound for your bass.
It won't make a bass cab into a PA cab if that was what you were thinking.

I don't think so. String noise goes way higher than that and can be used to
add definition to the sound.
One of my favourite tricks when doing rock bands is to use something like an
SM57 aimed at any tweeters in the bass amp with all the low end rolled off
it (in addition to a DI of course), just so I can bring in string noise if
the situation warrants it.

Many bass guitars today have much more extended response. This is
extremely subject to instrument, strings and player.

What Peter said, and realize the very best ear portection is right on
your amp, and it's a knob that controls the sound pressure level that
your amp will deliver.
Tinnitus is the last thing I hear every night...
