Recording a book reading, in a church hall. |
|
|
Hi all,
I have a low scale recording to do in the next few days. It's to be as
invisible.
The destination is a show for the local community radio channel which I'm
involved with.
The media will be Minidisk. The mikes will be very simple electret types
to keep visibility down. My plan is as follows...
1 channel will be a generic electret mike, it sound quite clean and clear
however
it is an Omni, so might pick up a bit of room noise and atmospherics.
Second channel will be a cardiod electret lapel mike.
I plan to put them together on a small stand a few feet in front of the
vocalist/reader
and post edit the sound to get a blend of clean audio (cardoid) and room
(omni.)
The sound will be balanced to suit. My main concern is the dB balance of the
two mikes.
Anyone any other ideas for this type of event, remembering the system has to
be
subtle on stage and that the system will have to user attention once set up.
Duration
will be about an hour.
Thanks,
Rv!

Put the lapel mic on the reader's lapel... The db and time difference
can be easily delt with in post without too much trouble.

refer to speeches made by the president of the united states (any prez) and
say "don't you think they would make HIS mics invisible if they could?" |

Given my choice of mics, I'd use a Countryman E6 in place of
the lapel mic, and a Berhinger ECM 8000 omni for the ambient
sound mic. |

Nice mikes but I don't have any and the budget is non-existant.
The Countryman would be a good idea for the direct mike as
nothing can beat a good very close mike, however fitting a headset
or lapel mike is out of the question in this situation.
I think I'm going to have to run with the plan I had, getting the mikes
as close as sensible without offending anyone. The advantage I have
here is if it sounds crap we just dump it; We're under no obligation to
anyone for this. I've just heard that there are now a few other events we
wish to cover at this book/reading festival. These will be at different
venues
around the area and mostly non-amplified.

that's the key. you need to base your approach on how imperative it is
to get a good recording.
