Using a TIVO post DirecTV |
|
|
Here is one for you that I figure has had to have been asked before. I
moved and no longer use DirecTV. The house where I am living now has
another competitor. I have a Phillips DVR (TIVO) that came with their
special deal when I signed up a bit over a year ago. Is there a way
that I can use my TIVO without using DirecTV? I have a cable in from
the Satellite that the home uses but I cannot get it to work on my
TIVO.
Should I just toss out the DVR?

You can't use a DirecTivo with another satellite service (or anythjing
else but DirecTV), but don't toss it out. You can sell it to someone
who has DirecTV. Why I even sold a plain DirecTV receiver for $10, so
you should get twice that for the Direc Tivo. If you can't, I'll give
you $5 for the controller and another $5 for the hard drive.

If you have a Phillips DSR6000 or DSR7000 DirecTV TiVo, the only thing it
will work with is DirecTV. If you have one of the other Phillips TiVo
units, it will work with Cable, Dish, etc.

Phillips branding has appeared on both standalone TiVo recorders
and DirecTV DVRs. If your DVR has two satellite dish connectors
on the back panel, it won't record without DirecTV service
and connection to a satellite dish.
If the dish in the new house is for Echostar (Dish Network), it won't
work with a DirecTV DVR.
