DVD Carousel Question... |
|
|
Is there such a device that can hold at least 100 dvd disks and
read/play them as well and can attach to a PC via a USB connection?

Imation makes one:
http://www.imation.com/products/disc_stakka/index.html
TigerDirect sells it for $119.00.
Silly me. I didn't read carefully enough. It doesn't play discs. It
only indexes them and ejects the one you want.
Sorry to have misled you.
|
Interesting, though: Sounds like a compact way to store a bunch of CDs
or DVDs. Might need a can opener if it malfunctions, though :-) |

DaCal (www.supermediastore.com) makes one (no playback) that you can use
with computer off that holds 150 discs. |

There are various External Drive enclosures for USB2, a
couple of those with 300GB drives should handle that much.
Check out www.buffalotech.com and www.provantage.com

Thanks I am aware of that however I would prefer the ability to keep
everything on disk and read or play the dvd via the device. Keeping
everything on a dvd is the main goal. |

Do a Google search on "DVD jukebox" and you'll find several links.
I don't think you'll like some of the prices though :-(

See:

Not only do these jukeboxes *start* at about $2000, the MPAA and CSS people
are suing companies that provide server capabilities with these devices.

That's partly why I don't like multi-disc carousel. Also some of the
carousels may be poorly made to prevent discs from coming loose if you
move the system around. I made that mistake when I had a 3 disc DVD
player, had to open mine to extract 2 lost discs. (The discs were
part of the TV show Land of the Lost)

Not the only one, but if you want reliability it isn't cheap :-(
We looked into DVD and decided that it was so much cheaper and more
convenient to go to hard drive playback, that getting a mechanical DVD
player, subject to loading delays and breakdowns, was simply not worth
the effort. Hard drives are dirt cheap now.
