DVD will die a tragic death on the morning of Jun 9, 2008 at 3:40 am
EST.
Friends and well-wishers will be encouraged to make a donation to their
favorite charities in DVD's name.

Link?
I have given you a link at least three times.

A link to a player manufacturer saying that you will need the internet
to use a HD/ Blu-Ray unit?
Please... would love to see it.
Should be easy right... since it is a "Done Deal".

And yes... lots of folks watch actual "Film" at home.
"HDTV is only great compared to analog tv."... well, exactly.

IIRC, there have been 2 separate releases that discuss the internet
connection, the first being about the 2 forms of DRM including a
renewable one (renewing itself over an internet connection) and the
second being the BluRay player not allowing itself to be modded to be
(for isntance) region free.
I also seem to recall something about authenticating BluRay DISCS
themselves somehow, though this one seems less clear.
I'm not convinced that it's all a "done deal" but the releases and the
discussions certainly sound like it.
I'm sure that the guys at Sony really WANT it that way, though, in the
next few months-to-a-year, if their marketing drones figure out that we
won't buy them that way, we might see a last minute fix. (i hope).
My feeling right now is that I REALLY WANT A HD VIDEO PLAYBACK MACHING
(either format). DVDs don't really look that good. But I'm not
willing to tolerate any of this insane DRM crap. I'd be willling to be
an early adopter, inf act, ANXIOUS to be one, but they've succeeded in
forcing me to wait it out.

I won't buy anything that requires it be hooked to a telephone line.
If this means in 25 years I'm sitting in my house with the last working
analog TV and my Cylon-Head package dvd's of Battlestar Galactica, then
so be it.

Most people are slaves to the industry and will submit to whatever new
format emerges next.
I see dvds going strong until a cheaper and more pewerful version of video
I-pod emerges. One that can hold terabytes of data and can still fit in your
pocket and can be plugged into any TV or PC. Something that can easily hold
every movie and every cd you own with room to spare and easy to uprade.
Until then, I'm a dvd man... |

Which ain't going to be any time soon:
Particularly given the fact that no other studio seems to be interested
in providing content (most are even against the idea), even if Apple
*does* ever speed up the danged download time...
(Oh, and seems most people who don't have the iPV yet haven't caught on
that the videos aren't MEANT to be seen on big-screen monitors, and are
now whining about the expected blow-up quality.)

You're an idiot. If there was no demand for higher definition
resolutions, there would be no market, you retarded twit.

You're a goddamned idiot. Touting I-Pod as viable is utter proof of
that.

OK, asswipe. So we are slaves to industry, but it's OK for your
retarded ass to desire a terabyte storage subsystem. Could you be any
more retarded?

No, you're an idiot. The slaves to industry remark proves that |
beyond any doubt. |

I wonder how cheap flash memory could become if there was a mass
market for it?
