Unfortunately there is not a lot to show right now. The car is prett
much in need of complete restoration, and I don't drive it as often a
I should. To top it all off, my fuel pump quit on me just this summer
So, most of the system is currently removed from the car.
It did consist of:
Alpine CD player (circa 1998)
AudioControl EQX
Xtant 50w x 2
Advent components
Rockford Punch 150HD (have a Phoenix Gold ZX400.2Ti to replace it)
Various subs - Most recently an Elemental Designs e12O
I went very simple with this system... no rear speaker at all.
For the front components, I removed the map pocket along the bottom o
the door (not sure if the Jetta had these) and built custom door pane
spacers to mount the midbasses in (5.25"). The tweeters came with 3.5
adapter plates and eyeball mounts, so I put them in the dash. Th
x-overs are mounted under the dash behind the glove box.
After much experimentation, I actually ended up firing the driver'
side tweeter off the dash and the passenger side directly at th
driver's headrest. I know, it sounds strange but it worked... made fo
a nice high sound stage.
One thing I still need to do is sound deaden. Most of my equipment wa
installed before sound deadening became commonplace. So, before you d
any major installations, deaden as much as you can. These older wate
cooled VW's just don't have much to kill the road noise.
The other big challenge with this era of VW is finding a spot to ge
heavy guage wire through..

No bob, not 84 feet (84'), its a 1984 ('84) model year GTI. It is m
hobby vehicle and therefore it gets the good audio equipment. My '0
F150 has a decent enough stereo for now, and my wife drives our '0
Passat, so I'm not going to do anything with that stereo just yet.
As for speakers in the back, well if you don't understand then there'
no point trying to explain it. Talking to you is like talking to
brick wall.
As for rear seat passengers, well... I don't think anyone has ridden i
the back for at least 5 or 6 years... makes rear speakers kind o
pointless. But if they did ride in the back, trust me, they would kno
what song was playing once I turned it up... as in 130 dB worth o
knowing what song is playing..
