Let's pretend I can't afford DVD studio Pro.

I find iDVD is killing the quality of my ten min movie. How can I get
the best quality out of iDVD w/o buying DVD Studio Pro?

I have compared the finished DVD results from iDVD to DVD Studio Pro (both
the latest versions with Tiger) and don't see a difference in video quality
for standard def content. Perhaps you have some setting wrong?

I failed to mention that perhaps Roxio Toast may be another low cost method.

The quality of the video on a DVD is determined by the quality of the
MPEG encoding softare and by the encoding settings (the comression
ratio, etc.)

Does your software allow you to adjust the compression settings?
There are free/cheap utilities out there that will create MPEG files
for DVDs which allow you to adjust the compression settings.
www.videlhelp.com is a goldmine of information on MPEG
encoders and encoding.
