New sony DVD burner in firewire case comes up as std CD-ROM |

Hi
Just put one of the Sony DW-D22A in an old firewire case (waiting for a new
enclosure) and its only seen as a standard cd by Nero(5 I think) do I have
to upgrade to see it as a dvd burner. I'm using a laptop so I cant put it
directly on the IDE bus
Any help appreciated

There is a drop-down box under New Compilation where you can select CD |
or DVD. Try that. |

Cheers I tried that version but it did not find it Either, I had to upgrade
to Nero 6... Worked like a dream, backed up 4Gb of data through firewire in
10-15 mins (didn't time it) now I need to try a double layer disc ££

You would have needed to upgrade to v6 for double layer anyway, I |
don't think v5.* handles double layer. |

Are you certain that there was no CD / DVD dropdown box on the left
side of the New Compilation dialogue box in v5.*?

Could not see one, but the burner did not show up in the 'Choose recorder'
dialog but could select it in 'medium/disc information' where it appeared as
a normal cd-rom/dvdrom drive. Looking at Nero 6 I don't get the cd/dvd drop
down combo if the dvd burner is not connected to the machine.
