Pioneer DEH-7400 Display malfunction |
|
|
Hey everyone!
I've had the above unit for 3 years, and for the last 1.5 yrs, the
display has stopped working. Everything else works fine, flawlessly -
even though the display is not functional, i can adjust bass, sound,
etc. (takes practice as there are 7 'screens' to 'scroll' through :)
Here's the kicker, when it's hot (after driving for a while in the
summer, or when the car heat is on for 30 - 45 min) the display starts
to flicker back on, and then works fine! Even after stopping/powering
down for a few minutes, and then back on, it works great! Then, once
it cools, the display malfunctions.
I'm pretty handy with electronics, so if anyone could point me in the
right direction (similiar experience?) I'll attempt a repair. It's
something contracting/expanding in dere...
Thanks and cheers!!

What I would try 1st is, get a pencil eraser and try cleaning all the
contacts on the face plate and the main unit.
If that doesn't fix it, your best bet would be to get another face plate. I
just got off ebay for a DEH-P7200 for $20.00
Good luck |

If it is something that's loose, you'll need to get some dental picks and
just run over all the IC pins and see if you can find one that's loose.
Then retouch anything that needs solder. It doesn't sound like it's a
contact issue with the faceplate contacts as nothing changes when you touch
the face but it doesn't hurt to clean the contacts.

Thanks Joe.ker and Bruce - I took the face apart and rubbed the
contacts and all IC's and resisters - really the whole thing - with a
pencil eraser - it now comes on !! it's a bit flickerey, but i'll just
repeat and I'll bet i'll get her constant.
thanks for the advice!
