| Quote: | I'd probably recommend either the D-Link DWL-G120 version B2 or the
Netgear WG111 (Only serial numbers starting with WG72),

I picked up a Netgear WG111T but it's saying that is an unsupported
adapter. Is there such a difference between the WG111 and the WG111T?
Is there any way I can get the WG111T adapter to work? Or am I just
better off returning it?
thnx,
Christoph

Yes, get a wired adapter and then use a wireless gaming adapter.
Performance will be better too. |

Why will a wired adapter/wireless gaming adapter have better performance
than a *supported* 802.11g adapter? Obviously I agree that it's *much*
faster than an *unsupported* 802.11g adapter ;-).

It can be, since the TiVo's native wired performance is better,
probably since it takes less work for the drivers. Not sure how much
of an advantage it'd really be, or if it is worth the cost.

It'd be down to driver performance, totally a software issue then. I'd
like to see a head to head comparison before I'd buy that it was a
significant difference. Actually, come to think of it, I've got the
equipment to do it, if I manage to find the time I may do that.

Other points to consider, most of the wired adapters support being
programmed via a web page built into them. That way you can configure all
the security and other features you want WITHOUT having to do anything on
the Tivo. The Tivo thinks it's just a wired connection. The box handles
all the dirty work of WEP, WPA or other configurations. That means any
future wireless bridging device will work without needing anything other
than a supported wired connector on the Tivo. |

It's true that the gaming adapter is more flexible, I'm just not sure
it's significantly faster, which was the original comment.
