Pioneer 110d does the 'd' stand for dunce ?
Bought one of these creatures to replace the 108 drive.
The 110dunce model burns 8x media at only 4x.
Firmware is 1.17
108 shits all over the 110dunce.
Why did they release a slower model that burns as slow as the 105
drives of 2 years ago.
Why wasn't the 110dunce recalled. Clearly not a 16x burner and not
even a 8x burner.
My 108 burned 8x in 8 minutes and 16x in 5 minutes.
The 110dunce burns 8x in 16 minutes and that goes for 16x media too.
I went back to where I bought it from and they told me I had to buy
daxon media if I wanted to burn at 16x. What is the point of this new
drive if it only burns to one type of media.

wait for the firmware update, this will undoubtedly allow you to get
those important minutes back.

had one for a month now and it burns everything I throw at it, even TDK 16x
DVD's and at 16x no less !!
what type of disks are you using, are they "really" 8x
what program are you using to burn with, I have had 8x disks refuse to burn
at anything over 4x using Nero 6.6.0.13 yet burn at 8x burning straight from
within windows.
oh and I haven't upgraded the firmware from how it came out of the box.

Not for me. Tdk 16x burn at only 4x. Tdk 8x burnt at 4x. Taiyo yuden
8x or 16x burnt at 4x. Gave up in the end and went back to the trusty
109 which has not missed a beat.

Firmware 1.22 should be on the Pioneer Australia page in the next few
days. SalesMart members section for customers can download this now.
October 3, 2005 Firmware 1.22 update for the Pioneer DVR-110D drive.
Fixes an issue to cause operational malfunction of the drive eject
button combined with a writing software with Windows ME.
CD-R Readability has improved
DVD-RAM Readability has improved
DVD+R DL Writability has improved.
Some media brands have been updated to the firmware list.
Pioneer DVR-108 or 109 drives burn most brands of media where the 110D
still has some catching up to do and if the media is not on the list
then it is most likely to burn at only 4X.

A quick glance over at the videohelp page shows some like the 110d and
some hate it. Perhaps some bad made drives are been sold.

Media compatibility seems to be a huge problem with this drive. It
would seem that only the absolutely highest quality media is
acceptable for this drive as I have absolutely tons of quality issues
when using even 2nd tier disks (as seen on www.nomorecoasters.com)
I've tried the RITEK G03 Maxell 8x DVD+R's at 8x, 6x and 4x and had no
quality rating above 50 using nero cd/dvd speed. I have yet to try
anything first tier though, as they are extremely hard to track down. |

Hi All,
I was hoping one of you kind gentleman would be able to help me. I
have recently acquired a new pc with a Vanilla Pioneer 108 in it. It
has the original firmware installed and I have been trying to flash it
with the last approved Pioneer firmware for the 108 from the Pioneer
Aus website for the model I have. However when I click on the .exe and
after a couple of seconds it says it cant find the drive. I haven't
been able to find a way to install the latest firmware from the web and
it's proving to be somewhat frustrating. Especially when I am using
16x TDK DVD+R media and I'm stuck burning at 4x with my current
spindle. By the way my pc doesn't have a floppy drive if that makes
any difference to a potential solution such as booting from a floppy
etc.
If someone could outline the steps required to flash the drive or
point me to a FAQ or website that explains it all in idiot friendly
language that would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance. |

Sounds like un authorozed firmware is on the drive which means you
can't install Pioneer firmware over the top of it.
There are programs that can flash it back to the original and then
install the genuine Pioneer firmware. This of course voids the
warranty.
Software for flashing back is at:
http://www.dvd-recordable.org/
Or if its a new computer, why not take it back and get them to fix it
up.
Get it fixed before doing any more burning because those burns at 4x
on 16x media are very likely not to play back correctly. |
