If you are familiar with AviSynth & VirtualDub, you may use AVS script,
containing this as your source:
DirectShowSource("path_to_file", fps=???)
??? is actual framerate that you have to find out (usually 25, 23.976 or
29.97). Add any editing commands you need, load to VirtualDub, encode in a
usual way. There are of course programs that do this conversion for you and
you only have to click. I do not know them, as I do not need them. Google or
somebody else on this NG might tell you more.

I generally use EasyX Video Converter daily to convert FrenchTV news
bulletins to divx avi (it will also convert to mpeg1, mpeg2) and it is
quite fast. Faster than EO Video which is another application that will
do these things. WinAVI is a bit faster, but I don't like the
interface. I tried the avs (avisynth) script route but I only got
video, no audio. Maybe this is because I am using Real Alternative
instead of the official Real media codecs. However EasyX works fine so
that's what I use. |

I think total video converter is the best for real video to avi or
mpeg. The video and audio syncs very well.
