I found out from my wife why we're getting the replacement TiVO for
free: It's going to take 10 days to get us the new one from their
warehouse! What am I going to do for 10 days or more without TiVO. I
had to watch Lost and Survivor in real time. Not good. I might buy a
new one, use it until we get our replacement and then take it back! Oy
vey!

Too much trouble. And don't bother telling me how easy it is. I know
already.
Thanks, though...

YMMV I guess. It must be a lot easier for me than for you since it is
almost easier for me to get shows from bittorrent than TiVo. Plus they
don't have commercials - bonus!

May I ask where you find the bittorrent tv shows and which bittorrent do you recommend? |

There is a new chapter in the saga of my f-ed up TiVO. We got the
new/refurbished TiVO today. Less than 1 week after they received our
broken one. We expected it to take about another week, so we were
thrilled to get it. I get it all hooked up and set up and there is
tons of picture pixelation. Tons of it! Pixelation during live TV.
Pixelation during recorded playback. Pixelation while on the TiVO
central screens. This is not good. My wife once again calls the nice
folks at TiVO. Turns out this machine has operating system 5.something
and this is a known issue with this OS. We need OS 7.2 instead. I'm
about to flip out cuz I think we're gonna have to ship this POS back.
The good news is that they can get us the new OS via telephone.
Apparently they are slowly putting out this OS update to all OS
5.something users, but we're now supposed to get it within the next 3
days. So we have to put up with this nasty pixelation until then.
What a hassle this has been!
Anyone else have the pixelation issues? |

Sometimes it doesn't pay to be too critical. We all want this stuff
to work, and work well. They're going to get the update to you. In
light of that, I'd be patient and let that happen. Then make a
decision about the unit. |

An update to the update....we got the OS software upgrade on Saturday.
Pixelation problem? Still got it. This is ridiculous. We spent a lot
of time on the phone with TiVO yesterday. They had me connect the
cable box to the TiVO box using a composite cable (red, yellow, and
white) instead of the RF (coaxial) cable. Didn't help. I almost wish
we didn't have a lifetime subscription because I'd be tempted to try
RePlay TV. Anyhow, they are going to send us a shipping label so we
can send this unit back and they'll send us another one. My wife asked
what would happen if we continue to have problems with the next
replacement unit. Could we get a refund on our Lifetime Subscription?
They said they'd continue to send us new units (well, refurbished
units, but new to us) indefinitely. We're on the TiVO merry-go-round
and there is no end in sight. My opinion of this company is suffering.

All I can say is the two I have don't have pixellation issues. Surely
one will come to you that works acceptably well. |

Mike, unfortunately you're just going to have patience. I've dealt w/
this type of problem numerous times (with different companies). It
comes from having a non-exhaustive quality control procedure on
refurbishing. They probably tested your box and marked it as functional
since it booted up and performed all the required tests. They may never
have actually even looked at the picture or even hooked it up to a
monitor (tuner failures are probably very uncommon). The best thing you
can probably do is point out what they overlooked, and pressure them to
overnight you the replacement. If you get *another* bad unit they ought
to do that without complaint, maybe even offer it without asking. It's
common policy to replace faulty units with refurbished ones, which
normally isn't a problem if the QC is good.

An update to the updated update. TiVO said they were going to send us
a shipping label to ship back the TiVO they sent us to replace the
broken machine. Well, a week later the shipping label never arrived,
so we called and they said they'd credit our account $20 and we could
just ship it to them on our own. At least this way I get to use UPS
(my employer!) instead of DHL. This saga has been going on for nearly
a month! Oy frikkin vey!
