Reliable way to back-up episode DVDs (Sopranos?) |
|
|
Anybody have any tips on a reliable way to back-up episode DVDs (e.g.,
the Sopranos)?
I've tried numerous times, with different media types, and have the
same problem. Everything looks good until I reach the very last
episode / towards the last chapter and the disk starts to sputter and
then finally hangs.
I've switched my burner (now using a Plextor), swapped burning
software (Shrink / Decryper, DVD rebuilder), and tried different
players, all with the same result.
Note, I've also noticed a similar thing with some movies, but not all.
Gets to the last chapter and then dies off. Still, it seems to be the
episode DVDs more than anything else.
I have found some forums that mention increasing compression as a
solution. My preferred software for burning is DVD Rebuilder / CCE.
Is anybody using compression there? If so, what's your ini file
settings?
Help would be GREATLY appreciated.

i had the same problem when i bought real cheap DVD+R (100 for 11bux)
They were made by MMC (mitsubishi manufacturing corp). Find out what yours
are...http://www.dvdinfopro.com
I bought some more cheapos from officemax...Valuedisc 50 for 25 bux. Problem
solved.
To get one of the best, try buying products made in Japan.(fuji etc) most
likey its made by a company call TY Taiyo Yuden.

Well, I was skeptical, but based on feedback here, I made the plunge
with Ritek to try and solve my 'freeze at the end' problem. I ordered
the two disk sampler. It's still early (only burned one disk), but
the one I burned played flawlessly with no "hangs" at the end. I'll
re-burn the other with another espisode disk that has been
consistently troublesome and see if the problem is truly solved.
I was skeptical, as at one point I made the plunge with what I thought
was quality media (Sony). That played on my one older DVD player,
while others would choke. Haven't tried the Ritek yet, but I'm
optimistic. Evidently, the quality of the Sony disks isn't what I'd
hoped and they were roughly twice the price (on sale!) of Ritek.
I'm feeling like a convert. Final verdict pending.
