Does anyone know what the maximum wattage a KLH Model Six Speaker can
handle? I'm looking at buying a pair of these speakers which were made
in the early seventies. I'd be connecting these speakers to a early
nineties Sony Receiver that puts out 75 Watts RMS.

Thanks for any help.

Mike

Power ratings aren't terribly useful determiners of this I'm afraid.
You can blow a speaker with an anemic receiver if you overdrive it
into hard clipping. You can blow a speaker by overpowering it. Many
feel it's easier to blow one with too little amp than with too much
amp. What everyone agrees on is that ears hearing the distortion and
fingers adjusting the volume have more of an effect than the number.

Impressively, the modern model 6 manual on page 4 "About Amplifier
Power" makes this point pretty well:

But a speaker that's over 30 years old though... gonna have to be
concerned about the condition of the foam surrounds and other
mechanical goodies that can dry up and leave you hangin (assuming
these are coned speakers).

Best Regards,
