Hi,

I have a TRV730 that has been pretty good for the type of video I typically
shoot. One annoying thing that has happened is the "label" that covers the
VCR controls on the top of the camera has started to lift off and expose the
underlying buttons. I have tried silicone and crazy glue to stick it back
on. It holds for a little bit (and I mean little).

Anybody have any other suggestions?

Again, I am sorry to say this in public, but all digital camcorders are

notorious to fail in very little time, and are notorious expensive.My 8 mm
sony CCD TR 425 E works excellent after 2 years of heavy usage and a dozen
recorded tapes, and seems that will be working as long as I can find 8 mm
tapes.The 8 mm and VHS-C camcorders had exhausted the tape technology, by
using metal particle tapes, so what are they using for the much larger
bandwidth of digital cameras?AFAIK, nothing groundbreaking has been
discovered in the field of the camcorder tape, and I would never burn money
in something that records in a lossy compression format.

I hate to suggest this for two reasons, but perhaps Gorilla Glue (or
other similar ones) would do the job.

Why I hate to suggest it:

1. I've never tried it, so maybe I'm just being conned by the ads :-)

2. If the camcorder ever needed repair, it might be necessary to remove
that label (I'm speculating), so *any* strong glue might be a problem.

I have tried some fairly strong glue (Krazy Glue) and it didn't hold very
well. Also I need to have a VERY narrow bead of whatever type of glue I use
(maybe that's part of the problem). I was hoping I could get a piece of
clear plastic film that would be durable and flexible enough to not crack
when I used the VCR controls. And it shouldn't react with whatever type of
adhesive I used.

The same thing happened to my TRV730. I eventually just peeled the
cover off. I know which buttons are which, so who needs the cover anyway?

I happened to have the camcorder in the shop for other repairs. The
shop was hung up on getting a replacement label from Sony (everything
else was fixed) so I told them to forget it.

The VCR controls work just fine without it.

Figured this one out!!

Picked up a vinyl repair kit for a waterbed which had some VERY durable
vinyl patches. The vinyl seems to be about the same "feel" as the label,
but thicker. I then trimmed a piece to fit, and used some Krazy Glue to
stick it to the plastic frame that surrounds the original label. I can
still see the original label AND the vinyl cover AIN'T GOING NOWHERE!!
