It's an eval copy so no money is involved.

You probably have not been using it in the manner I am. I am ripping
highly compressed video from DVDs I made using DVD Shrink. MPG
compression is notorious for doing all sorts of savage things to the
video stream, and I suspect that in the cases I am discussing here,
the carnage was too much for even VideoReDo can deal with. After all,
you do not really expect a software developer to expose the
limitations of his product, do you?

You keep right on using it to your hearts content, and if all you want
is kind words, I recommend AOL chat groups.

Redo does not work in every instance.

Anyone using Ulead MovieFactory 4 must apply the latest patch.

I recommend that users make a clone of their boot disk before
installing MF4. The reason is because you will have to uninstall it at
some point and reinstall it, so if you have a clone you can avoid the
uninstall process, which includes a thorough Registry cleaning by all
the major cleaners to get as much of the residue out.

I have been exercising MF4 over the past several days in as many ways
as I can think of. I have discovered something about how the
developers have attempted to patch the problems they have, It's an old
trick but it eventually can lead to serious problems which can only be
solved by the Ol' Uninstall/Reinstall.

What I have discovered is that in a futile attempt to cover over the
problems, they are keeping an environment which configures MF4 based
on what is believed to be the last stable configuration. They keep
this in the so-called "hidden" areas maintained by MF4, namely
Application Data under your user profile.

What happens is that eventually you can't do anything new without it
reverting back to some goofy behavior that you are trying to work
around. Even VideoReDo does no good. If you attempt to pass this along
to the Ulead forum, all that will happen is you will get fussed at for
ripping video DVDs.

If you find that MF4 is not behaving the way you want or expect it to,
based on the first few times you used it when you first installed it,
then the only thing I know to do is the Industry Standard
Uninstall/Reinstall, used by all the big boys when their applications
tie themselves in a knot.

In the meantime, I sincerely hope that Ulead expends the necessary
resources to fix MF4 because it is one of the more friendly
applications for simple DVD editing. Judging from the number of
patches that have been posted recently it would appear that they are
doing this. But I am afraid it is going to take a complete re-write
because this version has all the earmarks of a prototype being patched
to make it sorta work if not exercized too much.

Therefore we eagerly await MF5.

I have never done any of the MF4 patches and mine works perfectly every
time.

So you would never accept the logic that zillions of users find it works
fine, but your file must be some kind of golden standard that with failure
invalidates everyone's experience.

Get out of government, please.
