Sony DVP-S530D Picture Problem |
|
|
I have a Sony DVP-S530D with about 10,000 hours on it (~9,500 hours DVD
and ~500 hours CD).
For the past several months the image has had light and dark stripes
across the image. These stripes vary in orientation, straightness and
intensity. Formerly they would go away after five or so minutes. Now
they remain throughout a movie.
The DVD player is connected to my surround receiver by S-video cable and
the receiver is connected to the TV by S-video cable. My VHS machine is
connected to the receiver and does not have this issue.
Problem remains with a direct S-video connection from the DVD player to
the TV.
1. Is 10,000 hours time for a new machine?
2. Is there anything I can do to the DVD player to eliminate this?
3. Is a trip to the service center my only hope?

I went through the setup menus on the DVD player and lied to it about
having a subwoofer. The lines immediately went away. The lines appeared
about the time I set it up for the "digital out" to work and added
speakers and a new receiver. I guess it didn't care for some aspect of
all those changes. If the lines re-appear, I'll be back. |

Sounds like the varying magnetic field of the subwoofer is
disturbing your picture when it's subwoofing :-).
Try moving the subwoofer farther from the TV, orienting it
differently, or replacing it (or all of the above).
It might be the other speakers too. The same experiments apply, of
course.

Gino

I don't have a subwoofer. I told it I did. No matter, the patterns are |
back. I'm going to move the speakers as you have suggested. |

Sorry for misunderstanding you, but it's definitely worth a try with
the other speakers. I hope it works!

Well, the interference problem has become permanent.
I took into the local repair shop. They quoted me $125.00US as the
average repair. Sony site quoted ~$235US for replacement unit.
Circuit City has a DVP-NS775V for $123US. Now it has one less, actually.
Very fast setup. Has some neat features, has some I'll never use, like
zoom. I like being able to play CD-Rs, something the previous unit,
which I bought in March, 2000 couldn't handle. |
