Hi people. Newbies are a nuisance, I know. But I hope there's a kind soul
out there who will help me...

Just bought and installed an NEC dual layer DVD writer. Tried to burn my
first DVD today and just can't figure out where i am going wrong,

I tried TMPGenc first (DVD Source Creator) but it was just too complicated.
I also tried DVD2one and some others, but same issue. I'd get to a point,
then not know what to do...

So I downloaded DVDSanta, which is really simple and intuitive to use.
Seemed to do all the right things (I am trying to burn some AVI DVD rips).
From the two AVI files (which play fine) it generated the following files:

VIDEO_TS.BUP (106KB)
VIDEO_TS.IFO (106KB)
VTS_01_0.BUP (46KB)
VTS_01_0.IFO (46KB)
VTS_01_1.VOB (1 GB)
VTS_01_2.VOB (1 GB)
VTS_01_3.VOB (102 MB)
VTS_02_0.BUP (46KB)
VTS_02_0.IFO (46KB)
VTS_02_1.VOB (1 GB)
VTS_02_2.VOB (1 GB)
VTS_02_3.VOB (151 MB)

All of this looked right, so I told it to burn the DVD, which it did. But
the DVD will not play. I tried it in my outboard DVD player (region-free
Chinese model) and it recognised it as a DVD, but nothing played. Then it
decided not to recognise it any more. I tried it in my DVD recorder (had to
remove my DVD player to install it) and it won't even recognise the disk as
valid.

I tried playing the files on the hard disk in Roxio Player and they play OK,
but there is no sound.

I am not sure where to go from here. I have Nero 5.5 and Roxio CD Creator. I
also have AnyDVD and CopyToDVD as well as what I mentioned above.

My configuration, which may not be perfect, is P4 2.6 GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM, 40
GB + 13 GB hard disk (IDE1), 52X Lite-On CR-RW as Master and NEC 3500 DVD-RW
as Slave (IDE2).

Any help or guidance would be appreciated. So damn close and can't quite get
there.

Tony

You must be sure that when you burn your DVD you burn a "Video DVD" and all
those files must go into the "TS_Video" folder that your burning software
will set up.
