Hi!
I have different strange problems with DivX 5 and so far no real idea
what it is.
If I install the Pro-version 5.2.1 I get an error around the Winsock2
that never worked on my system.
'the dpu10.dll is linked to missing export
WS2_32.DLL:WSAEnumNetworkEvents'
I have Win98SE, but with numerous programs on it and one of
those probably blocking Winsock2, forcing the use of Winsock1.1.
Then the codec simply isn't there, not at my TV-tunercard's
software, not at VirtualDub 1.5.4.
Doesn't matter if I install in Pro-mode (test 6 months) or not.
So I'm back to the DivX 5.0.2 bundle. The codec is back and
I can use it, but what I don't get is how to increase the quality.
The slider goes to 10.000 kbps and even though
I typed in 40000 or down there directly
-b1 40000 -key 300 -dr 12,2,2000,10,20 -sc 50 -pq 5, but
it has no positive effect, even worse, it creates an AVI
of smaller size. Max Bitrate is grayed out alas.
As you know, Win98 uses FAT32 and has a filesizelimit
of 4 GB. AVIs a 2 GB-border. VirtualDub is no such big
help, set to 'multisegment' the last AVI alas isn't OK.
That's Athlon 3000+ with 512 MB RAM and large harddisks
of 120 and 160 GB. Plus DVD-drive from LG and DVD-burner
from Ricoh. If I could get such uncompressed AVIs then
I could use some DVD authoring software to convert
those AVIs to VOBs, adding a nice menu, making my own DVDs.
I have some videos I'd love to have on DVD.
The big problem at the moment simply is that making
VOBs from already compressed AVIs results in double-encoding
and somewhat lousy picture-quality. A workaround might be
recording directly to VOBs or at least AVIs done with
'lossless' codecs.
I hope you guys have any idea to fix that or tell me
about a software that fixes these problems.
A fix might be simply buying a DVD-standalone recorder.
Alas I'm not getting a menu then.
I wonder if some other software blocks DivX, forcing it to
this <700 MB-size for normal CDRs? (VCD, SVCD)
I have installed: Asftools, EasyVCD, Tmpgenc, DVDx,
CladDVD, DVD2SVCD, Smart Ripper.
I checked all the settings there, but found nothing
really related to DivX.
Btw, with Xvid it works better, I just created a 1.8 GB AVI.
I used XviD-1.0.2-29082004.exe.
Thanks a lot! Bye! Alf
