I am creating a DVD of a VHS tape. I have the chapter menu set for every
5 minutes. I also set several other chapter markers with the edit button on
the remote. When finished the main menu only shows one chapter containing
the entire burned DVD? The chapters are there, because I can get to each by
hitting the forwarding button. It even tells me the chapter numbers as I
advance, but no icons of the chapters in the main menu. Obviously I want to
edit the names of each chapter, if I can see them.... HELP... thanks!

You are going to need a real authoring package for this.

It will also let you move the chapter points to more meaningful breaks.

I and many on the group use a program called TmpgEnc DVD Author (TDA)
for this. It does not re-encode and will read .vob and .vro files
directly.

My modus for doing this is:

1) capture to DVD-RW on my SA.

2) copy to my PC HD. I use VideoRedo to trim, remove commercials,
etc... It also ensures that any dropped frames in the capture are
removed. Very few with my SA though, maybe 1 or 2 occasionally.

3) Create menu and new chapter points with TDA. I generally use Paint
Shop Pro for graphics and buttons. That is the fun of it, imho.

4) Shrink if necessary and create .iso file with DvdShrink.

5) Burn to DVD with DvdDecryptor at 4X with verify.

TDA is available at http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/

VideoRedo: http://www.videoredo.com/

The freeware apps DvdShrink and DvdDecryptor from mrbass:

Cheers...

You are confusing CHAPTERS with TITLES.

The recorder creates a main menu with entries only for each TITLE. A TITLE
is defined as the video that begins when you press RECORD and ends when you
press STOP. It doesn't matter how many chapters there are between those
two actions; they are not reflected on the menu. To do that you would have
to import the video to your PC and use an authoring program to redo the
title screen.

Thanks for clearng this up. I was trying to do what we see in a DVD
movie... a scene selection kind of thing to help find certain portions.

You can put 3 two hour movies on a dvd recorder
by putting them in in real time, alfready decrypted,
or decrypting as you do it, from VHS with a filter
on the vhs machine. You have to have a decrypted
original to do this, but sometimes that is very easy.
It depends on your equipment. I tape or make dvds
of up to 10 dvds every Tuesday.

This is too much work. One menu is enough, unless you put
three movies on a DVD as I do, in which case you want three.
Labelling chapters is a waste of time. It takes too much time to
do it. For what?
