Looking for good, simple DVD player |
|
|
Hi,
I'm looking to buy a good, but simple, DVD player.
i've been using my PS2 but am planning to sell that, and want to carry
on watching DVDs. I've done lots of research but am a little confused
with all the options.
Ideally I'm looking to spend $100 or less but would pay more if
required.
I've been looking at the ones with upscale convertors, but I'm not
really sure I need that. I have a 23" Samsung LCD - is it worth paying
the extra? Or should I just stick with a good progressive scan one?? If
so, which ones are recommended?
I've been looking at Samsung, Sony and Panasonic.
Thanks!

We bought the Samsung DVD-V5500 VCR/DVD combo about a week ago at Sam's Club
for $80...it works well and has many different ways to connect.
For info, specs and manual:

What is the native resolution of your tv? If its actually greater than 480,
like 720, you could benefit from an upscaling player. If its native res is
really only 480p, then just get a progressive scan non-upscaling player.

I bought a Panasonic VCR/DVD Combo [PV-D4745K] 2+ months ago, and I have
been pleasantly surprised after reading so many bad reviews about combos.
If you don't need the fancier ones with higher resolution, I'd recommend
this one for ease of use. I paid $120 for it, but you may find it on sale
by now. Check it out at Crutchfield's or ABT Electronics web sites.
