I have a stack of about 40 DVD-R discs, as yet unfinalized, that were
recorded in a Panasonic DMR-HS2 HDD recorder.

The recorder has suffered a terminal seizure and cannot be repaired.
According to local Panasonic technicians I can only finalize the discs on
the machine which recorded to the discs. This is not possible, meaning that
I now have a set of 40 coffee coasters that took 100s of hours of editing,
etc time to compile.

Would anyone have any ideas about how I might be able to finalize these
discs so I can use them?

I now have two very nice Sony machines (RDR-HX910) but they cannot recognise
the discs at all.

thanks

You just need to find someone with a Panasonic standalone, not necessarily the

exact same model.

FWIW, i have managed to use my Sony standalone to finalize a few of a friends
Pioneer disks. It for some crazy reason worked.
