Archos AV 420 video files? |
|
|
I have an Archos AV 420, and have some small video clips on my pc that I
would like to watch on my Archos. The video clips are mpeg files, and on the
Archos I get error messages like: "codec wmv7, MWMV etc. is not supported".
The AV 420 supports MPEG-4 SP with ADPCM stereo sound, with up to 512x384 @
30f/s, in AVI format. (I also think I can play divx on the unit).
So I wonder, how can I get these files to work on my Archos?

You need to convert the to AVI format (extension). I've used both Xvid
(free) and DivX to do the AVI conversion through various rippers. Check
Google for Mpeg to AVI rippers, or maybe the doom.org site.
Aside, I find I can set the rip of most movies to 1 CD (~700 megs) which
works well. There is a program that rips specifically for portable players
that works well too. It allows you to set both brightness and contrast
higher (saturation too) that works better on the Archo's display (can't
remember the damn name now!).

It seemed that Archos AV 420 supports xvid and divx mpeg4 avi.
You could use total video converter convert video of various formats to
divx or xvid mpeg4 avi. and note that the suggested output resolution
is 320x224 for the AV420.

That'd be "PocketDivX Encoder" you're thinking of.
