converting interlaced DV AVI to divx/xvid |
|
|
What is an optimal way for this conversion? I tried deinterlacing it
first (blend fields), the result is OK, but it looks "misty" and
faster movements look blurry. Can I convert it without deinterlacing?
I tried that, but I can see interlacing artifacts in the result. I
also tried to swap field order. The original looks fine on PC.

Not deinterlacing should be fine if you'll be watching the end product
on a standard TV. Otherwise, you'll probably see the lines in some
cases.
I always deinterlace with VirtualDub using the "blend fields" method
when the source is interlaced. But it's necessary to employ the
sharpen filter just after the deinterlace filter to keep the picture
from looking soft. Beware of being too heavy handed with sharpening,
though, since over sharpening can introduce artifacts of its own. 30
seems to work rather well for me, but you may want to experiment with
varying that a little depending on your chosen compression bitrate.
Higher bitrates can support higher sharpening levels.

Thanks, I may try that next time. In the meantime I did conversion to
interlaced MPEG2 with high bitrate using CCE and then to AVI using
AutoGK :-) The result looks _very_ nice. Much better than my first. I
think it did automatically something similar to what you described,
because it is deinterlaced and looks sharp. |

if you convert without deinterlacing you're bound to see interlacing
artefacts- unless you view on a interlaced display.
