I posted this to alt.video.divx, but I thought maybe somebody here can help
me, too.
---
I have an AVI file that plays only in WinAmp. It starts playing in WMP or
DivX player, but stops after a few seconds. I checked the AVI header and it
uses XVID4 for video and OGG for sound. I did a little search on google and
most hits were for Linux platform. I guess there must be some
incompatibility in the file that confuses most of the players. I wanted to
reencode the file with VirtualDub, but when I open it, it gives a message
that it cannot recognize the video type. Any tips how I could make the file
compatible with most players (my platform is WinXP)? Thanks.
---
I also found out that the AVI file does not start with RIFF marker, but with
OGGs. Are that any tools that can demux the streams and reencode them?

This might work, if "WinAmp" has registered its components.
You could use "GraphEdit" to find the components "WinAmp"
is using to play the file. You might then be able to construct
a graph that will properly demux your avi file.

Luck;

Sounds like a good idea. Thanks, I'll try it out. Can I use graphedit as a
frameserver (I worked with it just briefly)? Because otherwise the file
would be quite big :-)

I checked a few samples for graphedit and I think I got the idea how it
works. Looks like a nice SW. I hope I can convert that bloody OGG file with
it :-)
