Hi everyone,
I'm seriously thinking about buying a multiregion Toshiba RD XS34
(mainly for copying my VHS collection to DVD), but I read in one review
that it won't allow a DVD (not copy protected!) to be copied to the
HDD....which seems a bit odd IMHO. Or is this something that applies to
the UK model only?

Thanks for any help

Cheers

Paul

That doesn't sound likely. You should be able to make DVD-->HDD copies
("dubs") of non-copy-protected material.

But your primary interest isn't about DVD-->HDD copying/dubbing; it's
about VHS-->HDD/DVD. This may not be possible if you're talking about
commercial tapes. They probably carry some sort(s) of copy protection.
Some kinds can be defeated fairly easily with image stabilizers, but more
recent protection schemes aimed specifically at digital copying may be
much more difficult to get around. On the other hand, if you're talking
about tapes of TV programs, home movies, etc., there should be no problem.
