OK Guys, you are at the cutting edge of the game here so I feel that
this is a good place to ask..

I'm looking for a DVD-recorder with HDD to replace my ageing Wharfedale
DVD 750s (5 years).

The features I need are i-link, the ability to play pretty much
absolutely anything thrown at it and also to record to both + R/RW and -
R/RW.

An additional bonus would be inbuilt Freeview but this is not essential.

Just to make things interesting I need it to be cheap say sub £300.

This one for example looks good (although lacking a hard drive) but is
it...?

http://www.digitaldirectuk.com/products_moreinfo3/index.asp?product_id=8133

If there is one which is an absolute diamond buy but more than £300
please let me know but ideally sub-£300.

Cheers

TJ

If such a beast existed I think everyone would have bought one!

Adding Freeview pushes the price upto £490

The Panasonic DMR-EH50 records to -R -RW +R and RAM but can be unstable.

I think the Pioneer DVR-530HS only does -R and -RW but it does do DL.

I note that your example machine only records to -R and -RW.

I also have a Pioneer DVD recorder and would recommend it to others.

LiteOn was the OEM for the Ilo DVDR04, which you will find is one of
the most despised DVD Recorders on the market. Ilo switched to
CyberHome for the DVDR05, not that CyberHome is any better.

What's wrong with the brand names like Pioneer, Panasonic, etc? Why go
with some offbrand?

The only reason I can think of is to save a buck.
