Was listening to the radio on the way home from work today when I caught the
tail end of a discussion concerning the next big thing in television.... the
CED panel. The technology supposedly leaves plasma and LCD for dead. Does
anyone know anything about this? I didn't have any luck googling for
information about it.

I think you probably heard SED. (surface conduction electron emitter
display).
They have high brightness and top contrast ratio like CRT and use
about half the power that a LCD uses. The first SED screens should be
on the market soon,
made by Toshiba and co-developed with Canon. They will be very
expensive!
